‘Science-based practices for kinder, happier schools’
This website from the ‘Greater Good Science Center’ has some great ideas, particularly for teachers to use in form time or PSHE lessons.
The site offers ‘free research-based and informed strategies and practices for the social, emotional, and ethical development of students, for the well-being of the adults who work with them, and for cultivating positive school cultures.’
For each recommended activity (e.g. mindfulness in students), the site explains how to develop this, the science behind it, and suggests further related activities.
For teachers with a science focus there are some nice activities on developing awe and wonder in science (take a look here and here), and one on getting students to start from a problem-based approach like air pollution and work back to the science and include ethics and other subjects in their solutions.
The website is written with US teachers in mind, but can easily be adapted for use worldwide. The values it represents generally promote wellbeing in schools, which most would agree is much needed everywhere!
A great website for teachers to browse and get inspired about how to help their students and schools to be places that promote wellbeing, and how integrating different ways of thinking can help with that.
